The work on the installation of wind screens along the bridge over the Hollands Diep for the high-speed line between Breda and Rotterdam has been completed. Since 7 November, ProRail has been installing the screens to make train traffic less sensitive to strong winds.

The company announced on Saturday morning that the screens have been installed, but that it will be busy with carrying out the remaining work until Thursday. The total cost of the project is 60 million euros. Those costs are paid by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

“Until now, we let train traffic run slowly or sometimes even stop at wind force 5 to 6 or higher,” ProRail says on the website. “With the wind screens, this is no longer necessary for the bridge. With wind force 7 to 8, we can then run trains at normal speed over the HSL.”

More than 1,500 panels have been installed over a distance of nearly 3 kilometers. For the work was 24 hours 25 to 40 people on the bridge to work. The materials were delivered and removed by work train and truck. During the work, accompanying boats guided the ships safely under the bridge.
