The Twente Hospital Group (ZGT) is currently only admitting corona patients in the hospitals in Almelo and Hengelo. The organization is introducing a ‘temporary, general admission stop’ for people with other conditions.
This is necessary due to the ‘rapid influx’ of corona patients, the hospital group said. Outpatient care, emergency care and care for cancer patients will continue as usual. “At the moment we are asking ambulances to drive to another hospital in the area for non-emergency admissions,” said a spokesman.
ZGT had previously taken measures to have enough people available for the treatment of corona patients, but this appears to be ‘not enough to absorb the pressure on the clinic’.
The ZGT hospitals now treat about 40 corona patients, four of whom are in intensive care. They must be treated in isolation and staff must not be transferred to other departments.
Lots of new corona cases
This is to prevent the virus from spreading within the hospital. ZGT wants to expand the corona departments, but this also requires extra staff, who cannot be deployed in other places in the hospital.
Many new corona cases have been diagnosed in Twente in recent days.
