Two staff members test positive for corona virus the day before Vuelta start

Two staff members in the Vuelta a España were tested positive for the corona virus on Monday, one day before the start of the big round. These are employees of Sunweb and Bahrain McLaren.

Two staff members in the Vuelta a España were tested positive for the corona virus on Monday, one day before the start of the big round. These are employees of Sunweb and Bahrain McLaren.

The Sunweb staff member shows no symptoms and returns home after the isolation. The Bahrain McLaren staff member is also in isolation according to the corona protocol of the international cycling association.

In the run-up to the Vuelta, several test laps were done to keep the cycling bubble free from corona. A total of 498 tests were carried out on Sunday. Only the two staff members tested positive.

So none of the riders has the COVID-19 virus in the body. Everyone can start on Tuesday. The first stage of the Vuelta is a hilly ride from Irún to Santuario de Arrate of 173 kilometers.

The Vuelta is the third and final grand tour of the cycling year that has been significantly changed by the corona crisis. This week also races in the Giro d’Italia. The Tour de France was held from August 29 to September 20.
