TNO and the GGD Amsterdam carried out the trial together at the test street in the RAI. People who had themselves tested there were asked if they would also like to provide a sample for this test, so that the results could be compared. Nearly nine hundred samples were thus obtained. The comparison showed that the percentage of true positive results and the percentage of true negative results corresponded to the results of the PCR test. “The test thus meets the set criteria for reliability”, concludes the GGD Amsterdam. TNO adds that now nothing stands in the way of further implementation.
The TNO test, also known as the LAMP test (Loop mediAted isothermal amPlification), gives a result within 45 minutes to an hour. In the PCR test this is 24 to 48 hours.
TNO will present the results of the practical test this Thursday to Minister Hugo de Jonge.
Several types of rapid tests in circulation
Recently, tests have been carried out with several types of rapid tests in the Netherlands. Rapid tests from US companies BD and Abbott were the first rapid tests approved by the Department of Health last week.
In addition, the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) developed a super-fast breath test. The ministry has already ordered hundreds of devices from these.
