The Netherlands starts vaccination against corona on January 8

The first vaccination against corona will take place on January 8. Minister De Jonge (Public Health) writes this in a letter to the Lower House. A condition is that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approves the vaccine from the American manufacturer Pfizer next Monday.

De Jonge’s letter comes after a lot of criticism was voiced in the House of Representatives on the slow progress of vaccinations in our country. Earlier today it was announced that other European countries will start the vaccination campaign at the end of December. First invitations “The first invitations will be sent out on Monday January 4,” writes De Jonge. The first group of people to be called consists of employees of nursing homes, care for the disabled, community nursing and home care. Anyone who receives an invitation can make an appointment by telephone. The GGD will vaccinate at three locations in the country no later than 11 January. Tonight, the last day before Parliament’s Christmas holidays, the House of Representatives will still be debating the vaccination strategy. The House is upset because neighboring countries are starting to vaccinate earlier.
