The musical Soldaat van Oranje is again temporarily halted due to the corona crisis. The longest-running musical in Dutch history will only resume when there is “enough” audience to play, producer New Productions reports Friday.
“The constant start-up and shutdown of production, the rebooking of tickets over and over again, is not a sustainable situation for our employees, nor for our audience”, can be read on the website of Soldaat van Oranje.
“Our performance is therefore on hold for the time being. And that on the day that we actually exist for ten years, very surreal and sad. But we do everything we can to be back as soon as possible!”
Since the government’s corona measures on 14 October, a maximum of thirty visitors per room are welcome in theaters and cultural institutions. Previously, about a third of the hall capacity was occupied, but because of the flare-up of COVID-19, the government is tightening up the measures further.
Producer New Productions decided after these measures to cancel all performances until November 11. All people who have bought a ticket for a performance will receive a personal message.

Musical already visited more than 3 million times
Soldaat van Oranje premiered in 2010 and is considered the most successful musical in Dutch history. The performance, which is about the life of resistance hero Erik Hazelhoff, has been performed almost three thousand times and has already been visited more than three million times.
Soldaat van Oranje was already stopped at the beginning of March due to the introduction of the corona measures. After six months the musical was performed again. In September, the musical came to a halt due to corona infections in the cast.
