‘Seniors want stricter control on corona rules’

Many seniors think that the cabinet should do more to prevent the number of corona infections rising. They want stricter control over compliance with the rules. That says the elderly organization ANBO based on its own poll among more than 5,400 people aged 65 and over.

More than 64 percent of the people who came along think that better enforcement should be done at a distance of 1.5 meters and 60 percent that mouth masks should be mandatory in supermarkets and other shops. Six out of ten elderly people would also like to have a host or hostess at the entrance of the supermarket, just like in the beginning of the corona crisis, to remind people about keeping their distance and to clean the shopping trolleys.

Of the more than 5,400 respondents, 43 percent say they are (very) afraid of the second wave. Not only the disease itself is feared, but also sitting at home alone for weeks.

“In the first corona wave, we had thousands of elderly people on the phone who had little or no contact with others. Some of them were really depressed because they were home alone for weeks. So I understand very well that many people are now worried about that again. “, says Liane den Haan, director of ANBO.

Many elderly report that they have already done a lot to protect themselves against the corona virus in recent times. Still, quite a few seniors now want to go a step further, such as going to the supermarket less often, receiving or paying less often or no visitors, and certainly not going to restaurants, museums and theater.
