Ronald Ockhuysen quits after five years as editor-in-chief of Het Parool. The 54-year-old journalist will become director of communication and strategy at Chios Media, Joop van den Ende’s company, from 1 January. He reports this on Thursday on the website of Het Parool.
“After all those beautiful and exciting years at Het Parool, it is time to make way”, says Ockhuysen. “It’s healthy if another person with new ideas takes over the course. After nearly thirty years of journalism, I’m also ready for something else.”
Ockhuysen was appointed editor-in-chief of the afternoon newspaper in 2015, after serving in the editor-in-chief for the previous five years as deputy editor-in-chief. Before his time at Het Parool, he was a theater, film and media journalist at de Volkskrant for seventeen years.
In his first year as editor-in-chief, Ockhuysen had to reorganize at Het Parool, which has a circulation of 45,000 printed copies on working days. In 2017 and 2018, the newspaper was voted World’s Best Designed Newspaper.
In the coming months, publishing house DPG Media will be looking for a successor to Ockhuysen with the editorial team.
