An accident on the Zevenhuizen exit of the A12 resulted in a life-threatening traffic situation. Because despite a red cross above the highway and a Rijkswaterstaat employee on the spot, several road users decided to take the exit. It produces bizarre images.
“If cones, a central reservation, a point, a red cross, a road inspector’s car and an accident on the Zevenhuizen exit are not enough. Then what is?”, Rijkswaterstaat writes on Twitter.
Bizarre images
Images show that several road users ignore all directions and drive right past a road inspector:
Not only passenger cars drive straight through the central reservation, several trucks also ignore the red cross, the cones, the car and the employee to drive right past the accident. “These are dangerous scenes”, Rijkswaterstaat writes.
The employee is doing well. He got off with a fright. Still, ignoring red crosses is life-threatening, the traffic service emphasizes. “More and more fines are being handed out. We hope that by sharing these images, people will see how dangerous it is!”
Campaign #notvoorniX
At the end of last year, Rijkswaterstaat started the #nietvoorniX campaign to make drivers aware of the dangers of ignoring red crosses. Last year, 3000 fines were handed out.
RTL News spoke about it with road inspector Ton, whose car was rammed into by an inattentive truck driver who had been drinking. “If I had been in my car then, I would not have been able to tell it again now.”
