Public Prosecution Service demands compulsory treatment against suspected cinema murders in Groningen

On Tuesday, the Public Prosecution Service demanded compulsory hospital care in Groningen in court against 34-year-old Ergün S. for stabbing a cleaning couple to death in a cinema at Gedempte Zuiderdiep. The OM bases its claim on the advice of behavioral experts. They regard S. as completely insane, because at the time of the violence he was dominated by psychotic delusions.

Gina (55) and Marinus (56) Visser were surprised on October 26 last year by the presence of S. in the cinema building, where they were working at the time. S. stabbed the woman first and then her husband, who had come to the uproar. The bodies of the victims were found shortly afterwards.

S. from Rotterdam had been struggling with psychiatric problems for years. In 2018, partly due to poor drug intake and a cannabis addiction, he ended up in a downward spiral. Delusional images got a hold of him. What exactly drove the man to the deadly violence has remained unclear.
