More than five hundred bidders came for the six hundred lots offered. The Hague Historical Museum took possession of twenty objects, making it the largest buyer. The museum picked up the neon light box with the name Garoeda, among other things.
The wooden effigy of the Hindu god Vishnu with Garuda – a creature that is half human, half eagle – was most in demand with 48 bids. The object was hammered off at 1,150 euros.
“We are very pleased with the high yield and the opportunity that has been offered to so many bidders to obtain a tangible memory of this historic place,” said curator Christiaan Mensink. The catering auction also raised an additional 23,000 euros.
