Prime Minister Rutte does not count on an extension of the Christmas holiday

Prime Minister Rutte currently thinks that it makes no sense to extend the Christmas holidays by a week for the schools. “Now I would say that this measure has no dramatic effect. I do not expect the schools to close longer.” The prime minister does have a reservation: “We will decide in the coming days. It could be different next week.”

On Tuesday, the Prime Minister and Minister De Jonge will give another press conference about the corona measures. During his weekly press conference, the prime minister did not want to anticipate any new measures. “People understand very well that little is possible with these high figures.”

Extra week

One of the measures on the table is to extend the Christmas holidays for students by an extra week. Rutte does not expect the schools to close or remain closed longer during the Christmas holidays. “This has huge consequences. And, I suspect, it doesn’t seem to contribute that much.”

According to the prime minister, there are sources of infection in education, but it is also not dramatic, he says:

The prime minister also says the coming days are crucial. “In the coming days we will see what the experts say about the figures. Tuesday could be different again.” The cabinet will meet with experts at the Catshuis on Sunday.

Rutte continues with the advice not to go abroad during the Christmas holidays: “stay here.”
