The police have started to take away protesters from activist group Extinction Rebellion who block the busy Europaboulevard in Amsterdam on Monday morning. After the 250 or so protesters failed to respond to a repeated call to leave, police took action to remove them.
The climate activists blocked the road around 7:30 am at De Boelelaan near the Zuidas. They wear masks and carry banners and flags. Some of them have been chained or glued to the road. The atmosphere is calm and activists can often be taken away without any problems.
The activists take buses from the transport company GVB to a location elsewhere in the city, where they are released.
On Friday, climate activists also blocked an intersection on the Zuidas in Amsterdam to draw attention to climate change. The police then ended the blockade after a few hours, because it was prohibited by the municipality.
