On Monday, the police thought they were on the trail of a cannabis plantation in Geleen in Limburg and therefore decided to investigate a suspicious home. However, the officers did not find hemp there, but a number of buckets full of chicory plants, the police announced on Tuesday.

After tips and an energy measurement, the police had come to the assumption that there might be a cannabis plantation in a residential area in Geleen. During the search, the officers’ attention was drawn to a PVC pipe coming from a house and blowing air out.

The officers rang the doorbell and a woman opened the door. She was willing to show the officers around and was very helpful, police said.

In the basement, the officers found a wooden construction that gave access to a crawl space. When they pulled back the shelves, the officers expected to find weed. To their surprise there were buckets full of chicory in black soil.

The woman’s husband turned out to grow the chicory plants as a hobby. The resident had forgotten to say that to the officers.

The police have continued their search for the possible cannabis plantation elsewhere in the neighborhood.
