On Monday evening, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) announced additional measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus. We provide an overview.

The following national measures apply from 6 pm on Tuesday evening, for at least three weeks.

People are allowed to gather outside, such as on a terrace, in groups of up to 40 people. Inside, a group size of a maximum of thirty people applies. An exception is made for funerals, demonstrations, cultural institutions, zoos and companies.

At home it is recommended to receive only three more guests. Children up to the age of thirteen are not covered by this advice.

In a building other than home, a maximum of four people from different households are allowed to sit together, such as during a cinema visit or eating at one table in a restaurant.

Catering industry closed earlier, sports matches without an audience

The catering industry must close at 10 p.m. nationwide. No one is allowed in anymore at 9 p.m. and the light switches on. Takeaways are allowed to deliver meals until 02:00, but are not allowed to sell alcohol after 10:00 pm

In the catering industry, it is mandatory to ask visitors to register, so that the GGD can conduct source and contact research if there is an infection.

For sports competitions, both amateur and top sport, no audience is allowed to sit in the stands for the next three weeks. Sports canteens are closed.

Extra rules for Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague

Additional measures are being taken in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague, because the number of infections is rising sharply in those cities. For example, wearing a mouth mask in shops is recommended. Retailers can refuse customers who do not wear masks.

It is also recommended not to travel to the mentioned major cities if it is not strictly necessary.

In a large part of the Randstad and in and around Eindhoven, residents are urgently advised to wear a face mask in all public interior spaces. The Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said this on Monday evening.

The urgent advice applies in the safety regions of Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden and Brabant-Southeast.

Relaxed measures tightened up again

A number of recommendations are being tightened up nationally: working from home is the norm again, and travel movements should be limited as much as possible.

Supermarkets must become stricter again on compliance with the 1.5 meter measure. There will also be a shopping hour for vulnerable groups twice a day.
