The Haaglanden security region took this decision earlier this week. Amsterdam-Amstelland, Kennemerland and Twente will now follow. The alternative method had been used for some time in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region last summer.
Because more and more people test positive for the coronavirus, more source and contact studies are also needed. According to GGD GHOR, it is necessary in these regions to set up the method “more efficiently” so that the studies can be carried out for everyone.
The capacity for conducting the studies is now being scaled up. This is proceeding according to schedule, according to the organization. “But where the plan was to do 1,500 source and contact investigations by the end of this month, we were already at 2,000 infections, all of which must be investigated.”
The GGDs therefore appeal to the responsibility of persons who have become infected. They are asked to inform their contacts themselves. If it is estimated that the new method poses a risk to a person, this part of the investigation will not be relinquished.
According to a spokesperson, there is a risk if the person who tested positive works, for example, in elderly care or comes into contact with risk groups in some other way. The GGDs will also call the contacts if it is estimated that the corona patient will not do it himself. “It is and remains tailor-made.”
