Minister Ollongren does not want to postpone a more expensive energy label for homes

Interior Minister Kajsa Ollongren does not intend to postpone the introduction of the more expensive energy label for homes. She writes this in a letter to the Lower House, which had asked for a postponement. The rules should take effect early next year.

Interior Minister Kajsa Ollongren does not intend to postpone the introduction of the more expensive energy label for homes. She writes this in a letter to the Lower House, which had asked for an extension. The rules should take effect early next year.

A home must have an energy label if the owner wants to sell it. Now they can still arrange this label digitally, which costs a few euros to a few tens. From 1 January, they must have an expert visit for this, which entails additional expenses. According to the Vereniging Eigen Huis (VEH), this means that the label will cost around 190 euros. Moreover, there is doubt whether the expert is liable if the energy label is incorrect.

Last month VVD MP Daniel Koerhuis submitted a motion to postpone the introduction. A majority in the House of Representatives agreed. Still, Ollongren does not intend to postpone the introduction.

According to her, that is not possible, because it goes against European rules. She also writes that the label becomes more accurate and reliable because the expert actually visits the home. The minister adds that the expert is indeed liable, because this is laid down in the Civil Code.

Ollongren also wants to monitor the prices of the new energy labels and compare them with those in other countries. Partly on that basis, she wants to see whether price adjustments are necessary in the future.
