It would not have made much difference if Matthijs van Nieuwkerk (60) had signed a contract from RTL. This is what program director Peter van der Vorst (48) tells in ‘Algemeen Dagblad’.
“We were very far”, Peter opens a book. “Matthijs would quit De Wereld Draait Door, but it was very questionable whether he wanted to do a daily talk show again.” Ultimately, Matthijs decided to stay with the NPO, a choice that Peter understands: “He can do the things he wants there. There is only less pressure.”
In the newspaper he also tells about the negotiations with Eva Jinek, which took place in the deepest secrecy. “The first meeting took place at my kitchen table. Nothing was allowed to leak,” remembers Peter. “I thought it was exciting until she signed her, even though I already had a yes moment after the first interview.”
