Marie Verhulst is Samson’s new owner. From 5 October, Samson & Marie, the successor to her father’s program Samson & Gert, can be seen on NPO Zappelin. “I didn’t want to be a copy of my father. I’ll do it my own way.”
Verhulst and Samson also release a new CD. The record called Samson & Marie contains two new singles and ten remakes of the old songs, which were sung by Marie.
“We tried to make the series a bit more modern. The songs have all been given a modern twist”, says Verhulst. The episodes of Samson & Gert always lasted around 25 minutes. A choice has also been made here. “The new episodes are all only about five minutes.”
She had known for quite some time that Marie Verhulst would succeed her father as Samson’s new owner. However, this was very secret and she had to keep it to herself for a long time. “It was a secret for everyone, I prepared myself well at the time. But I found it difficult to hide from everyone what I was so busy with,” said Verhulst.
Alberto and mayor are still there
Anyone who is afraid that the whole idea of āāSamson & Gert will disappear, is wrong, according to Verhulst. “Of course, the new series also just contains old elements. For example, characters like Alberto and the mayor are certainly still present.”
In Belgium, the first episodes of Samson & Marie have already appeared on television. For Verhulst this was also the very first time that she saw a full episode. “It was very exciting to see myself again. When I finally saw the end result, I was very happy. I had to laugh a few times myself, so I think that’s a good sign.”
