Lucky TV is back on television, Monday evening is the first broadcast in “Jinek”. Creator Sander van de Pavert hopes to be able to save the talk show from destruction.
His plan was to spend the corona time gaming. Hang out on the couch, eat pizzas and mess up some virtual monsters. Completely fine, after all those years of daily deadlines and stress. Sander van de Pavert already stopped with ‘Lucky TV’ at the beginning of this year, well before Matthijs van Nieuwkerk’s program ‘De Wereld Draait Door’ hung on the willows and the corona crisis broke out. But at the end of last week it was announced that Lucky TV will return, with Eva Jinek on the commercial RTL. Why this change in plans?
Actually, he doesn’t have time to talk. Van de Pavert is busy making the first movie and the stress is back full. āI still have eleven and a half hours to deliver something. Can’t you send an email? ā In the end, sitting on the couch got boring, he says. “I was done with that after almost a year, indeed.” Of course he does not answer the question how big the bag of money they have offered him is.
As with DWDD, Lucky TV becomes a regular ingredient of “Jinek”. The daily films provide a satirical view of current events, with Van de Pavert rarely sparing famous people. He edits existing films by editing them differently and providing commentary with a voiceover. For example, on Prinsjesdag last year, he let political reporter Albert Bos insult the public in the Ridderzaal without any concerns: Madam, what have you attracted? What is this, a spacesuit?
Perhaps his most popular films are those with King Willy and Queen Max. Willem Alexander with his flat Hague accent becomes a stupid caricature of himself and Queen Max laughs like a horse at his silly jokes.
He also made fun of Eva Jinek several times in the past. For example, he edited a video in which she looks sultry into the camera with flowing blonde hair and little remains of her image as a critical talk show host. In another video, King Willy and Queen Max watch a program with Eva Jinek in the United States. Willy has a good laugh at the voiceover spoken by Van de Pavert, which makes Eva Jinek’s American pronounced name sound like “A Vagina”.
Clearly, something must be done to save Jinek’s program from extinction. The viewing figures are sliding down and are being pushed further and further away by the successful NPO talk show “Op 1”. With Lucky TV, heavy artillery is used to turn the time. When asked whether Lucky TV is going to save Jinek, Van de Pavert replies: āI hope so. Say, I would love to spend hours with your pomegranates, but now I really have to move on. ā

They never again sit at the magical table of Matthijs (and they find that very unfortunate)
For fifteen years, “De Wereld Draait Door” could be seen daily, but presenter Matthijs van Nieuwkerk wanted “something else with his life”. Understandably, these regulars and table ladies and gentlemen will miss the program.

āI suspect that at night I regularly enter the world of animals,ā says Van de Pavert in the section “I have a dream”.
