An earthquake was measured last night near the village of Winde in Drenthe, ten kilometers south of Groningen. The earthquake had a magnitude of 1.8 on the Richter scale.
The quake happened around 1:40 am and the epicenter was located at a depth of about 3 kilometers, according to the KNMI. There are no reports of damage yet.
It is the fourth quake this month in this region with a magnitude of around 2.0. At the beginning of this month there was another quake in Westeremden and two days before that quake Uithuizermeeden was hit.
Various earthquakes were also reported in Groningen in July. The tremors in the province of Groningen and the surrounding area are almost always caused by gas extraction in the province.
