Hotel Holiday Inn at Haagse Schouwweg in Leiden will focus more on housing migrant workers. The hotel sees no other way to survive the corona crisis. As a result of the change, 58 of the 74 permanent employees will lose their jobs.
“This reorganization is necessary because of the structurally disappointing results in recent years, the major impact of the corona crisis and the great uncertainties for the coming period”, the hotel responds to questions from news partner Sleutelstad. “By taking vigorous action now, bankruptcy is prevented and the employment of some of the staff remains.”
The result of the reorganization is that 58 employees will end up on the street. A social plan has been negotiated with the Horeca union of the FNV trade union, to which a great majority of the employees have agreed. “The board and management regret that this way the employment of so many dedicated employees has come to an end. Unfortunately, it is no different,” said the hotel.
With the reorganization, the focus will be on housing labor migrants. “Other possibilities are being sought for the exploitation of the hotel, including temporary accommodation for international employees,” said the management. The Event & Convention Center adjacent to the hotel will continue to exist. Extra will be invested in this in the near future.
