Federal chairman Just Spee and secretary-general Gijs de Jong laid a floral wreath on behalf of the KNVB on Wednesday at a meeting at the Cimitero Monumentale in the city of Bergamo for the victims of the corona crisis. The Italian city, where the Dutch national team will play against Italy later in the day, was badly hit by the pandemic earlier this year.
The mayor of Bergamo, a delegation from the Italian Football Association and a delegation from the club Atalanta Bergamo were also present.
In the run-up to the Nations League game, the Italian Football Association has set up a program to pay tribute to the victims of the first Covid-19 wave and the health workers who were active there.
The meeting is attended by about a thousand ‘special’ spectators. Among them are 243 mayors from localities in the region. Healthcare workers are also present at the game.
