Joop Zoetemelk with fractures in hospital in Paris after an accident

Former cyclist Joop Zoetemelk is in a hospital in Paris with multiple fractures. According to the NOS, the former cyclist was hit by a car while he was cycling.

Zoetemelk would be present in the French capital at the last stage of the Tour de France, which ends today on the Champs-Élysées. The wife of the 73-year-old Zoetemelk has informed the NOS that the winner of the 1980 Tour is conscious.

The former cyclist has lived in France for quite some time. Later that evening he would have a role in the NOS program De Avondetappe, which is broadcast from Rijpwetering, the place where Zoetemelk grew up.
