GroenLinks election program: more expensive meat, free childcare

GroenLinks wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions faster than the current policy is aimed at. As early as 2045, society must be completely climate neutral, the party states in its program for next spring’s parliamentary elections. A climate fund of 60 billion euros should help.

In the draft program presented in Amsterdam on Saturday, GroenLinks also embraces the new climate ambition of the European Parliament, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 60 percent by 2030 compared to 1990. That is considerably more ambitious than the Climate Agreement, which requires a 49 percent reduction. aims to.

The cabinet recently announced an investment fund of 20 billion euros to stimulate economic growth in the coming years. GroenLinks believes that this plan is too focused on the ‘old economy’, and instead wants to invest heavily in sustainability in particular.

Modern links

The climate must be ā€œtop priorityā€ in the upcoming elections, says party leader Jesse Klaver. But society also needs to be organized in a fairer and more social way. That is why, according to him, GroenLinks comes up with a ā€œmodern linksā€ program with plans that ā€œchange the economic systemā€.

The party also advocates, among other things, for much more affordable rental homes, a significantly lower health insurance premium and free childcare. GroenLinks also wants meat to be more expensive, while fruit and vegetables should be made cheaper by scrapping the VAT on them. Flying and driving are discouraged, while trains and bicycles are given free rein.

According to GroenLinks, lower taxes on labor should ensure that people with low and middle incomes in particular benefit significantly. People who earn a lot will actually contribute more to the plans of the party. Anyone who does work, but earns too little to make ends meet, will receive an income supplement.

The climate fund wants to use GroenLinks for investments in what it calls ā€œa green and fair societyā€. The party cites not only affordable and sustainable housing, green energy and sustainable transport as examples, but also the fight against debt and homeless problems.
