According to the writer, several women could confirm the story, but have since left the party for fear of negative consequences. The party leaders would be aware of it, but have done nothing. Kaag says that when she took office in January, she asked if there were anything else she needed to be informed about. She was then told that there had been a case several years earlier, but that it had been investigated and completed. “That could be this case,” Kaag responds. The woman’s report prompted her to request an investigation. The investigation into the allegations is being carried out by the Bureau Integrity of Dutch Municipalities, the party management said in a response. According to a spokesperson for D66, the lobbyist has not held a position within the party since 1 September 2018. He is still an active member and involved in the party.
