Jean-Marc van Tol, cartoonist of Fokke & Sukke, is with seven errors the best-scoring well-known Dutchman among the participants of the Groot Dictee der Nederlandse Taal.
The ‘unknown Dutchman’ Olaf van Kessel from Haarlem is the winner of the dictation with two errors. The special edition of the Groot Dictee was broadcast on NPO Radio 1, during the broadcast hours of the KRO-NCRV program De Taalstaat.
Ten well-known Dutch people and ten listeners of the radio program competed against each other from home. Sheila Sitalsing, Sylvana Simons and Domien Verschuuren, among others, participated. An average of 10.4 errors were made. The average was higher for prominent figures: 13.
The presentation was in the hands of Frits Spits. Just like last year, the dictation was written by writer and linguist Wim Daniëls and read by former chairman of the House of Representatives Gerdi Verbeet. With words such as quarantine kilos and Irma effect, the text, which can be read here, was this time about the corona virus.
