Prime Minister Bob Loughman announced that a man has tested positive, but assured his countrymen that “the country will remain safe.” The corona patient is in quarantine.
The infected man traveled from the United States via Australia and New Zealand to Vanuatu. He would not have had any visible symptoms. The corona infection was revealed after a few days during a routine check-up.
Vanuatu closed its borders earlier this year to keep the corona virus out. Repatriation flights are now permitted. According to data from the health organization WHO, other remote island states such as Micronesia and Tuvalu are still known to be corona free.
