The instructions on the website of the National Government to create a mouth mask from a sheet or old T-shirt contain incorrect dimensions for months, the Ministry of Health confirms Saturday after news from Kassa. The government had incorrectly converted US inches to centimeters.
As a result, masks were too big and did not fit properly, making the masks less effective.
Since the summer, the government had taken over a manual from the US government, Kassa writes. It uses pieces of fabric of 10 inches wide and 6 inches high, which is 25.40 centimeters and 15.24 centimeters.
However, in the Dutch manual, patches of fabric measuring 27 by 20 centimeters were mentioned. Other dimensions were also incorrectly calculated.
A few hours after the message from Kassa, the national government published a new instruction online, in which it was written about pieces of fabric measuring 25.4 by 15.2 centimeters.
