Can you stay with more households in one holiday home?

The autumn holidays are coming, and many more Dutch people are booking a holiday home in the Netherlands, and holiday parks Landal GreenParks and Center Parcs are noticing. But can you actually do that with multiple households? And what about across the border?

Readers Anneke and Thamara ask themselves that and we answer that question in the 159th corona update.

Landal GreenParks and Center Parcs rent out houses in several countries. In all those countries you can see that the parks will mainly attract guests from their own country this autumn, says a spokesperson for Landal GreenParks.

Multiple households

This can also be people from several households. Because the parks follow government guidelines, say the spokespersons for the holiday parks.

The guideline currently reads: people from different households are allowed to use a holiday home in the Netherlands.

Behind the front door

However, it is urgent to share the holiday home with a maximum of three people who do not come from your own household. Children up to and including 12 years old are excluded. And people must keep a distance of 1.5 meters.

This is not checked, says a spokeswoman for Landal GreenParks. “We leave that to the responsibility of the guests themselves. Because it is behind the front door, so that is difficult for us to control.”

On sight

Once you have arrived at your accommodation, you can also simply use all facilities, within the rules that apply in the holiday park. For example, indoor and outdoor swimming pools may open, but holiday accommodations themselves determine how this is done. CafƩs and restaurants must adhere to the catering rules.

In principle, each campsite, each holiday park and each hotel determines how the guidelines of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment are put into practice.

Of course it may also be the case that you have booked a holiday home abroad with more people from different households. Can you still go there?

The answer to that question differs per country and per holiday park. For example, at Center Parcs in France there is no maximum number of guests per cottage, apart from the maximum number for which a cottage can be booked.

Answer to corona questions

Here you can read all questions and answers from answers to questions from visitors about corona.

But in Belgium there are again restrictions. A maximum of 10 people may be in the accommodation at the same time.

And in Germany the weather differs per park. For example, a maximum of 10 people or a maximum of 2 households are currently allowed in Park Eifel, while in Park AllgƤu a maximum of 20 people are welcome per house, regardless of the number of households. Center Parcs expects changes to this soon.

Insurance

In any case, it is advisable to check the travel advice of the country you want to go to. For example, a country or area can have code red – advice not to travel – or code orange: only necessary trips. And in both cases you are not insured for damage related to corona.
