Cabinet is working on new measures, no new lockdown is expected

The hours of consultation at the Catshuis has resulted in the cabinet preparing new measures. These are aimed at limiting people’s contacts and travel movements, so that the number of infections is further reduced. A new (intelligent) lockdown is currently not expected.

Insiders report this to the political editorial staff of RTL News. During the informal meeting at the Catshuis today, the prime minister, ministers and RIVM director Jaap van Dissel were present to discuss the latest developments.

The figures on the number of infections remain worrying. The number of corona infections is not decreasing fast enough, so policy must be tightened and new measures are needed.

As few contacts as possible

According to insiders, the package of measures and tightening is aimed at limiting contacts and travel movements.

According to the reasoning, those who limit their contacts as much as possible, for example only to their own household, are less likely to become infected. Therefore, people are advised to limit their contacts, with a smaller group size. In addition, a tighter, better enforcement of the measures already in force is being considered.

Tightening on the table

New measures discussed earlier include a duty to mask the mouth, closing the catering and evening shops earlier and limiting public transport. During the first corona wave, public transport was only intended for necessary travel.

According to sources, a lot of homework is still needed to see which measures are taken exactly.

Monday consultation again

There will be more meetings tomorrow. Then experts from the OMT come together, whose advice is also leading. Tomorrow evening there will be a meeting with mayors of the security regions.

On Tuesday evening there will be another press conference by Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge.
