Bol.com must from now on clearly inform customers about external sellers

Bol.com will from now on inform customers about who is the seller of a product. The webshop also sells products from external providers and it was not always clear before which products this was the case. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers & Markets reports this on Monday. ACM will also monitor other platforms for this.

Bol.com will from now on inform customers about who is the seller of a product. The webshop also sells products from external providers and it was not always clear before which products this was the case. The Netherlands Authority for Consumers & Markets reports this on Monday. ACM will also monitor other platforms for this.

According to Edwin van Houten, ACM’s Director of Consumers, it is important for consumers to know who they can address if something goes wrong. “To prevent consumers from being sent from pillar to post, bol.com is now clear about this on its website.”

“This is a great result for consumers. We call on other platforms to provide this clarity as well,” he says.

Bol.com says that it previously also showed when an item was sold by an external sales partner, but that the website is now clearer about this.

According to ACM, platforms must not only be clear about which seller customers are dealing with and what their rights are, but must also check new sellers before they are admitted to a platform. It is the platform’s responsibility to only admit sellers who adhere to consumer rules. Sellers who do not do so may be addressed by the platform.
