Transactions such as Tikkies and payments from bills are not taken into account. So it is purely about purchases from web shops. Last year’s daily records – both in terms of turnover and number of purchases – have already been broken a few times this week.
From last Saturday to Thursday, 567 million euros was spent online on purchases from web stores, which means that without Black Friday itself. The number of iDEAL transactions in e-commerce in the past few days was 50 percent higher than in a normal week and up to 60 percent higher than during the same week in 2019.
Web shops and companies such as PostNL have made explicit agreements this year about the spreading of actions to prevent overload. Black Friday has come over from the US. There it is the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, a day when many employees are off. For retailers, Black Friday is the kick-off for the Christmas season.
Discounts average between 15 and 20 percent
The Consumers’ Association also sees that Black Friday “lasts longer this year” and states that there are also more offers than in previous years. “On average, the discounts are between 15 and 20 percent.” Outliers with a higher discount are, according to the organization, mainly found in the audiovisual corner.
According to the Consumers’ Association, spreading the offers over several days is intended to spread the number of visitors in the shops as much as possible in connection with corona. “Several stores have special daily offers.”
This year there are again fake discounts, says the union, with shops giving discounts on the suggested retail price. “In reality, those suggested retail prices are never charged.”
