The commemoration of the Bijlmer disaster this year is very modest in size due to the corona virus. On Sunday at 6.35 pm it will be exactly 28 years ago that an El Al cargo plane crashed on the Groeneveen and Klein-Kruitberg flats in the Bijlmer in Amsterdam. The disaster took the lives of 43 people.

The board of the Stichting Beheer het Groeiend Monument asks next of kin, residents and other stakeholders and interested parties to commemorate the victims in their own way this year.
Anyone who wants to reflect on the disaster is called upon not to come to the memorial site at 6:35 PM, but to visit the monument during the day and lay flowers. This way, crowds can be avoided.
At 6.35 pm, the board of the foundation will hold a minute’s silence with a few people at the ‘Boom that saw everything’ to commemorate the victims. Then it will lay wreaths and flowers.
