ANBO director Liane den Haan party leader of 50Plus

Liane den Haan has been chosen as leader of the 50Plus elderly party for the parliamentary elections in March next year. The director of the ANBO seniors’ association was the preferred candidate of the board.

The consequence of her election during a digital members’ meeting is that the current party leader in the Lower House Corrie van Brenk will resign after the elections. She was the main rival, but did not receive enough support from the members.

Pension system

Van Brenk wants 50Plus to continue to oppose the change in the pension system. Den Haan is in a different position and as director of the ANBO already agreed to the pension agreement.

In recent years, 50Plus has characterized itself as a party that went from one quarrel to another. Recently, this led to the split off from intended list leader Henk Krol. He founded the party for the future. Chairman Gert Dales also resigned after a fierce argument. Founder Jan Nagel is now chairman of the party again.

Polls

Due to the arguments and the departure of Krol, 50Plus is doing poorly in the polls. Of the four seats won by the party in the previous elections, only one will probably remain.
