With temperatures of around 30 degrees, it will become tropically warm in the Netherlands after the weekend. This is rare for this time of year: since the measurements began, a maximum temperature of at least 30 degrees has only been measured on five September days, Weerplaza reports.
“Thursday and Friday we already get a taste with little wind and a lot of sun”, says Alfred Snoek of Weerplaza in conversation with NU.nl.
After a dip on Saturday, the Sunday is already summery with 23 degrees. On Monday and Tuesday the mercury will even rise to 25 to 30 degrees.
“We don’t have to deal with late summer weather, but plenty of summer weather,” said Snoek. “And that applies to the whole country, which is very exceptional for this time of year.”
The coastal provinces often lag behind in terms of temperature in the autumn because of the cold seawater, but that is not yet the case. “Even on the Wadden Islands we expect values āāof up to 26 degrees.”
Tropical days rare in September
Tropical September days are rare in the Netherlands. Since 1901, a maximum temperature of at least 30 degrees has been measured in De Bilt on a total of five days, Weerplaza reports. “Noteworthy is the month of September 2016, which was responsible for two of these hot summer days.”
It is quite possible that a day record will be broken on Tuesday. At the moment, the highest temperature recorded in De Bilt on September 15 is 29 degrees.
Weerplaza does not dare to make any predictions about the rest of next week. “It may well be that the heat will disappear. But to be able to predict that, we will have to wait for the computer models.”
