Advice: put on a face mask in public indoor spaces in parts of Randstad and Brabant

In a large part of the Randstad and in and around Eindhoven, residents are urgently advised to wear a face mask in all public interior spaces. The Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said this on Monday evening.

The urgent advice applies in the safety regions of Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden and Brabant-Southeast.

Earlier on Monday evening, Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s advice was to wear a face mask in shops, but the advice for these safety regions is to do the same in other public indoor spaces, such as the catering industry and museums.

“We want it to be self-evident in our city that you wear a mouth mask in an indoor space,” said Halsema about the situation in Amsterdam.

According to Halsema, the four regions that wear a face mask advise requests to “institutions, the catering industry and the retail trade” to include the obligation to wear a face mask in their door policy.

Also for people who carry out a contact profession, the advice applies to wear a mouth mask.

Advice is not enforced

According to Halsema, it is difficult to impose a masking obligation from the municipality or safety region. This requires a so-called instruction from the government. That is why it was decided to give all residents the urgent advice to wear a mouth mask.

According to the NOS, it is not enforced to wear a mouth mask in public space, because it is only an advice.
