The absence of holidaymakers costing the city of Amsterdam this year to only 116 million tax already. According to a calculation of the Center for Financial Matters.
That amount is about half of the total of 236 million euros in lost tax in the Netherlands compared to last year. The municipality miss the most after tax Amsterdam Haarlemmermeer with some 7.5 million, followed by Rotterdam (EUR 7 million).
Amsterdam is so far the hardest hit by the crisis and the corona effect is tourism slow to take off. Altogether Amsterdam expects a loss of 350 million euros by the corona crisis, wrote alderman Victor Everhardt. It is also called the inability to tax as a cause.
One of the three municipalities which are expected to go just to earn more tax is Amstelveen. One explanation is that Amstelveen has increased the tax from this year.
The Center for Financial Matters is a collective of amateur researchers that seeks to transparently flows to and from the government. For calculation they used figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and the NBTC, the trade association for the tourism industry.
