Iconic Art Hotel Spaander in Volendam bankrupt

Herman den Blijker and William ‘Sir’ Reimers strike a few years ago roll up their sleeves to pull out of the doldrums Chip Hotel but it was not meant to benefit: the famous hotel in Volendam is bankrupt. The court Noord-Holland brought the bankruptcy Friday outward.

Chip that officially Art Hotel chip is called, is full of paintings. Founder Leendert Chip showed late 19th century artists working in the hotel, who were inspired by Volendam and (then) the Zuiderzee. Three Chips’ daughters married artists.

The hotel was very popular with Asian tourists, but has severely suffered by the corona crisis. It was therefore already close since March 21, like most other restaurants.

The Blijker and Reimers took over the hotel in 2015 in progress for RTL4 series Noise in Chip Hotel. In six episodes they tried to recover the family hotel to its former glory. A year later the hotel was in the news because it had closed the toilets in the restaurant for day trippers. Many Asian visitors appeared to go toilet seat to get to their need to do and used toilet paper not flush but throw on the ground.
